Cool Canvas Bags for Kids

Kids don't necessarily care what a lunch bag is made of -- it's what's on the outside that counts. That's why we're so excited about our new line of insulated cotton canvas lunch bags for kids. The fantastic graphics are colourful and kid-friendly yet being made of cotton, these reusable lunch bags are free of PVC (the poison plastic) and tested lead safe. Parents can like them too, knowing they're safe for kids to use daily. The insulated bags keep food cool until lunch time. Other features include a cushioned handle, outside pocket, interior mesh pocket, ID tag and a sturdy three-sided zip for full opening and easy packing. The exterior of these funky lunch totes is treated with a non-toxic waterproof and stain resistant coating, the inside is easy to wipe clean on a daily basis. The good news is they're also machine washable on delicate with a line dry for a more thorough clean. Take your pick from butterflies, owl, peace skulls, monsters and robots. A Fruity Farewell

One of our favourite upsides of summer is the lovely local fruit. The downside? Fruit flies - seemingly everywhere. We've found an easy way to rid yourself of these pesky (and potentially harmful) creatures without resorting to a nasty chemical-laden store bought concoction. Try white wine. Simply pour some into a small jar and cover it with a bit of plastic wrap. Poke holes in the wrap with a pencil. The flies go in, but can't get out. For a more eco-friendly option, use a tall, narrow necked bottle and you can eliminate use of the plastic wrap. (This was figured out post-pic.) We tried balsamic vinegar too but wine won hands down 19-3. Do you have a tried and true homemade fruit fly remedy to share?

Evolutionary Eco Sunscreen

If it's possible to love sunscreen, this summer we've had an affair to remember. We've been testing all natural Eco sunscreen from Ecological Skin Care through July and hand on heart, it's the best chemical-free sunscreen we've ever tried. It's not too thick, easy to spread and non-whitening. It's also very water resistant, non-greasy and doesn't clog pores. Eco sunscreen is biodegradable, hypoallergenic, free of artificial preservatives and fragrances and offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. The active ingredient that makes it work is zinc oxide. Basically, Eco sunscreen ticks all the boxes - and the Environmental Working Group (EWG) agrees. It gives Eco top honours in the EWG's sunscreen reports, with the lowest possible hazard rating #1. Read more on the EWG's site. Choose from three different formulas - Baby, Body and Face, although all are safe enough to be applied to children under six months. For more details, click here.
