My Mom is the greenest lady I know and I think has mentored me to be the "green" woman that I am today. I think that she is a born again pioneer with her green thumb and "home-made" skills. She has taught me how to garden in our High altitude Zone 3 environment while still getting an excellent crop. She taught me when I was 6 to knit for a brownie badge and how to appreciate the time and care put into what people make versus what can be bought. Home-made is priceless. She taught me how to make jams and jellies from the berries we picked on our bike rides around Calgary and how to properly can and preserve these things so they will last into the winter, when local is hard to find in Calgary's winter. My mom has shown me how to mend and repair and re-constuct items in ways that allow them to have another life long after its original purpose has gone, such as salvaging a portion of an antique quilt from my grandparent's barn (the rest was long gone) and incorporating it into a new quilt. Going through old clothes that may be out of fashion, but with some minor alterations they can become trendy again. Even before recycling and composting was "green" my parents have always done some form of it for as long as I remember. I think it is because of my mom that I am working in the environmental sector today and am making daily attempts to live more sustainably. Thanks Mom!

My Mom is my role model. Always up bright and early during springtime when planting season starts and all her passions start to bloom. She loves her garden and for years she made her own compost with foods, garden clippings and coffee! She loves the outdoors as much as the indoors. I can still remember her packing just about anything in plastic first and wrapped with newspaper after going into boxes right and even right into the freezer. Never bought canned foods or at least the very minimal amounts as she always did her own canning in glass jars which she kept on reusing.. year after year. She made her own lotions with glycerine as the key ingredient with no preservatives whatsoever. One of her favorite hobbies is sewing and she is pretty good at it. Her Name is Carmela L. and I want to tell her Happy Mother's Day and thank you for for always being there for us.

My Mom is Lisa G who lives in the
Southshore of Montreal in a modest little home but a manicured garden lol Always tending and nurturing all around her. As far as I can remember; she loved baking & cooking from scratch! She just loves traditions. She makes a habit of getting perenials for her garden and really mixes plants around. She does her own organic compost as well. When she packs our lunch, we get it in thermo-lunchbags and utensils that we need to bring back. Juices are in a thermos as well as water. By the way, she still packs our lunches even if we're all over 23 and won't say more than that... :) She walks to the store as often as she can to buy groceries and brings two reusable bags with her. She buys local as often as she can. Living in Quebec there is not much local going on during the Winter months up to late Spring. She gives clothing, furniture and kitchenware away and never throws anything. Always up-to-date with recycling locations in our neighborhood. I love you Mom thank you for being there and showing us the way!

My Mom Adriana D. follows all the rules to a T with a smile. Loves plants. Does her own compost. Loves garden with vegetables, fruits and flowers! Recycles all the time anything and everything. Jogs and walks and doesn't own a car.. uses public transportation. Buys local as much as possible. This is just an outline of what my Mom is all about part from her caring and her love. Happy Mother's Day we all love you.

My mom recycles everything! She uses rainwater to water plants and grows her own herbs. She always makes sure to bring her own reusable bags to the grocery store. She walks every where rather then drive. She reuses many things and turns them into gift for people! She inspires many to go green!

My mother hasn't wrapped a present in years. She use scraps of fabric (she sews) to make gift bags. There are so many of them now that each child (there are 6 of us) has a stash and use those for presents also

My mom is green and teaches all her grade one students to be green also. She gardens, bikes to and from work when weather permits, composts, recycles, reuses, grows her own veggies, turns off lights, keeps the temperature low, only does laundry and runs the dish washer at low energy times, turns off lights when she leaves a room, shares her newspapers, magazines and books and is always learning the new tricks of the "being green" trade. The lady loves her nature and does her best to keep her world the way she wants it.... which is GREEN!

My mom was "green" before there was such a term, she would tie up the news paper and box up the glass to take it mile to the recycling depot once a month. We used cloth bags, when no one else did way back in the late 70's! She made most of our clothing, though we had a budget of kings in our small town, and reused everything. We had a massive garden that she canned and froze from, and taught me how to as well - she was a brilliant teacher, and continues to still all these years later!

My mother, June Y, grew up without knowing much about the environment, but ever since the first Earth Day in 1990 she's been diligent about recycling, composting, and doing as much as possible to reduce her environmental impact. Since retiring and moving from her house—where she was able to garden and compost—to an apartment in Port Coquitlam, she takes the time to help out with her building's recycling efforts by sorting plastics and papers into their appropriate places.

My mom teaches us everyday about being green and doing our part to care for our planet earth. We compost, turn off the water when we brush our teeth, turn off the lights when we don't need them, recycle, pick up garbage, drive less, plant gardens, use cloth diapers and buy second hand clothes. We love our earth:)

My mommy is Michelle L. and we live in Canada!

Told by my 6 year old daughter, Caitlin:) Our little environmentalist:)

Me: What does mommy do to help the planet?
My 5 year old son: "Recycle, clean the house, clean us. You use cloth diapers so you don't throw them away, you just reuse them. We eat fruit, vegetables, protein, and we don't eat anything bad for us like high fructose corn syrup and nitrates. And we don't eat brownies. (I am not sure where brownies came from but that is what he said, haha!)

We live in Central Florida and my name is Vanessa V. vmvazquez83@yahoo.com

My Mom Emely T. has been `green` for as long as I can remember. She taught my brother, sister and I how to start veggie gardening with seeds. She taught us how to buy in bulk and cook and bake from scratch. She was and still is a great `green` teacher.

Instead of my Mom I am writing about my wife Linda M mother of my 3 sons. She is very green. She takes a couple bags with her on her walk and picks up roadside garbage on her way. Then sorts the garbage from recycling when she gets home. She says its good exercise for her legs to go in and out of the ditches. She always has cloth bags with her to do her grocery and department store shopping. She did this long before it was popular to do this. She hangs her laundry up either on racks in the house or outdoors if weather permits. When cleaning out closets she gives the good used clothing to the local thrift store and also buys from them. Supports a mission by buying baby clothing from the thrift store. The not so good items go out on textile recycling.
At Christmas she uses cloth gift bags that she made herself.
We of course compost. She makes relishes from garden produced tomatoes. She has taught her sons to reduce reuse and recycle as well.
Thanks Mom

My mom Brenda G. is not the greenest mom around, which is why I think she needs the $50 GC to your eco-boutique. She does recycle religiously and she uses re-usable shopping bags... but I think it's b/c the plastic ones are cheeply made and break. She also tried growing her own veggies last summer, but only the hardiest of plants survived! She's working, takes care of the house and is raising a young grandson (my nephew, so easiest and quickest often wins out over greenest - but she's trying!I would love to surprise her with this for Mother's Day.

My mom (Kathy N., Southern Utah) is amazing. I don't just say that because she's my mom, but because she really is just an amazing person. She was green before it was trendy, and taught all of her children (all seven of us) to be green, too. Growing up we had composting piles, recycling bins, and more. We learned how to reuse so that we wouldn't have to recycle (or throw away). She raised me as a vegetarian, and taught me how to eat and cook with good whole foods, either out of our own garden, or at the very least organically grown. She taught seminars on the evils of Monsanto and Dupont way before the rest of the world started catching on to the fact that those companies (among others) are killing the earth (and us, with it). Now, she owns Kathy's Krackers, making and selling raw flax seed crackers and is a certified Holistic Life Coach, helping others make the most of their lives on this earth. She is my best friend, and an awesome mother and grandma. Love you Mom! :)

My mom is an elementary teacher so she has a chance to teach the next generation how to be green. She also has the opportunity to learn from the kids which is something amazing in itself.

My mom is very green! She is a world war II generation baby and very frugal...she recycles, reuses and makes do...She has always gardened and grown fruits and veggies. She has always taught us to recycle and reuse and pass along our toys..
Also, she taught us to enjoy the outdoors and to cherish experiences, rather than things...

We can learn a lot from her generation

My mum consciously tries to save water and electricity in her home, she uses washable dish cloths instead of paper towels, energy saving appliances and lightbulbs and frequently walks or bikes into town to get supplies, instead of driving.

She also regularly recycles; I recall from living at home, containers and cardboard toppling out of the box she uses to gather recyclables before they were taken to the bin outside, and an array of glass bottles collecting before they were dropped off at the glass recycling bank down the road!

Her name is Diane H and I lovez her! :)

My mom is the greenest mom! Why? Well, even from my first memories of being alive (when I was a baby!) I was in the garden with her while she was growing a lot of our own food (there is even a picture of me stuffing a worm in my mouth....hey, I was a baby!). She cans what she grows so it can be enjoyed all year, reducing the need to depend on imported goods. She recycles, she renovated her home to include double paned windows, draftproofing, she traded in her old car for a new one that is better on gas but also walks to the store and takes transit, she composts all her food scraps for her garden, she uses biodegradable soaps and doesn't use chemicals to clean and buys organic and local at the store! She is definitely a green mom and also educates her friends about being green :)
